PELAKITA.ID – Pelakita visits Salalah in 2024. That was a great journeyt because of the visit to The Tomb of Prophet Ayyub.
Prophet Ayyub is one of the most significant religious and historical sites in Salalah, Oman. Located in the misty Jebel Ittin mountains, about 25 km from Salalah, this sacred site is believed to be the resting place of Prophet Ayyub (Job), a revered figure in Islam, Christianity, and Judaism.
Prophet Ayyub (Job) is known for his unwavering patience and faith during times of extreme hardship. According to Islamic tradition (as well as Biblical accounts in the Book of Job), he was a wealthy and righteous man who was tested by God with illness, loss of wealth, and personal suffering.

Despite his trials, Ayyub remained devoted to God, and eventually, he was healed and restored to prosperity as a reward for his patience.
The Tomb and Its Significance
The tomb is a simple yet sacred structure, surrounded by beautiful green hills, particularly during the Khareef (monsoon) season. Visitors can explore The Tomb Chamber – A small, peaceful room where the grave of Prophet Ayyub is said to be located.
Ayyub’s Footprint – Just outside the tomb, there is a large footprint-like impression in stone, which local legends say belonged to the prophet.
Surrounding Mosque and Prayer Area – A mosque nearby allows visitors to pray and reflect in a serene environment.

How to reach Salalah?

Flight Duration: ~1 hour 30 minutes. Airlines: Oman Air, SalamAir. Cost: Starts from OMR 25-40 ($65-100) for a one-way ticket (prices vary based on season and demand). Convenience: The quickest and most comfortable way to reach Salalah. Direct flights are available daily from Muscat International Airport (MCT) to Salalah International Airport (SLL).
By Road (Scenic Route)
Driving (Self-Drive). Distance: ~1,000 km. Driving Time: ~10-12 hours. Best Route: Take Highway 31 (Muscat-Nizwa-Salalah Road). The roads are well-maintained, but the journey includes long desert stretches.
Things to Note: Ensure your car is in good condition, as fuel stations are far apart. Drive cautiously, especially at night, due to camel crossings.. Stop at scenic spots like Wadi Dawkah (Frankincense Trees) and the Rub’ al Khali (Empty Quarter).
Bus (Budget-Friendly). Service Providers: Mwasalat (Oman’s national transport company). Duration: ~12-14 hours. Cost: ~OMR 10-15 ($25-40) one way. Facilities: Air-conditioned coaches with reclining seats. Booking: Available at Mwasalat ticket counters or online.
