PELAKITA.ID – PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale), a subsidiary of Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID), has distinguished itself as the only nickel mining company to receive the PROPER Gold and Green Leadership awards from the Ministry of Environment, February 26, 2025.
The PROPER Gold Award was personally handed over by Environment Minister Hanif Faisal Nurofiq to Abu Azhar, PT Vale’s Vice President Director and Chief of Operations and Infrastructure.
Meanwhile, CEO Febriany Eddy received the Green Leadership Award in recognition of her efforts in embedding sustainability into the company’s corporate strategy and structure.
Minister Hanif commended business leaders dedicated to environmental sustainability, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between companies and stakeholders in creating a healthier environment.
These awards highlight PT Vale’s commitment to environmental stewardship that exceeds regulatory requirements while supporting Indonesia’s net-zero emissions vision.
Additionally, the company has actively empowered local communities by addressing social challenges in its operational areas.
One of PT Vale’s key sustainability initiatives is the ROJALI program (Jalur Alternatif Auxiliary Grid), which harnesses renewable hydropower energy to replace diesel generators during maintenance.
This initiative has led to a 57% reduction in CO₂ emissions, enhanced energy efficiency, and decreased reliance on fossil fuels—aligning with Indonesia’s clean energy transition.
“At PT Vale, sustainability goes beyond responsible mining. It’s about contributing to global solutions. The ROJALI program exemplifies how industrial innovation can drive the shift toward clean energy,” said Abu Azhar.
The company also runs Matano Iniaku, a community empowerment program focused on sustainability. This initiative has successfully rehabilitated 200 hectares of degraded land while tackling environmental issues like land conversion.
