The Student Activity Unit (UKM) Winslow English Club (WEC) of the Faculty of Public Health (FKM), Hasanuddin University, has officially entered a new phase of leadership with the inauguration of its management for the 2025–2026 period.
WEC serves as a space for learning, practice, and collaboration for students to strengthen global communication skills that are relevant to academic and professional challenges in the field of public health.
The establishment of WEC itself was inspired by the record of achievements of FKM Unhas students in the field of English. Awareness of the importance of mastering an international language for public health students encouraged the creation of a structured learning community.
WEC was officially established on 4 January 2024 and has continued to grow to this day.
The inauguration ceremony was attended directly by the Dean of FKM Unhas, the Head of the Undergraduate Public Health Study Program, WEC advisors, as well as representatives of student organizations within the FKM Unhas environment, who joined the event online.
The series of events began with an opening by the master of ceremonies, followed by the singing of the Hasanuddin University March and the FKM March, and remarks from the Dean of FKM Unhas.
In his remarks, the Dean of FKM Unhas, Prof. Sukri Palutturi, SKM, M.Kes., MSc.PH, Ph.D., emphasized the importance of WEC’s role as a platform for capacity building and student maturity, particularly in mastering the English language.
He also highlighted the vast global opportunities that students can access through international language proficiency.
“Thank you to the Head of the Undergraduate Public Health Study Program at FKM Unhas for encouraging the formation of the Winslow English Club management as a forum to refine students’ English language skills,” said Prof. Sukri.
He also introduced the WEC advisory board, consisting of alumni from various countries, including Australia, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands, and added that the majority of FKM Unhas lecturers have educational backgrounds from abroad.
According to him, this represents a great opportunity for students to take further steps and participate at the global level.
Following the dean’s remarks, the event continued with the core inauguration procession, including the formal confirmation and the reading of the pledge script by the newly inaugurated management.
This procession symbolized a shared commitment to carry out organizational duties with integrity, professionalism, and responsibility throughout the 2025–2026 term of office.
The inauguration was then marked by the presentation of the Winslow English Club symbol in the form of official daily uniforms.
With the conclusion of this procession, 32 new WEC management members were officially announced, to be led by the elected chairperson, Ash Habul Kahfi Fahlefi.
In his address, Kahfi emphasized that every organization must be grounded in a vision and mission that serve as a compass for its direction.
For the current management period, Winslow English Club upholds the vision:
“to become a progressive, inclusive, and achievement-oriented platform for English development that shapes globally competitive students with strong character and sensitivity to health and social issues.”
The missions include the continuous development of members’ English language skills, fostering a culture of achievement and global competitiveness, enhancing students’ self-confidence and international exposure, strengthening WEC’s role in community service through the integration of English education and health awareness, and building an independent, solid, and sustainable organization.
The presence of Winslow English Club stands as tangible evidence of the commitment of the Faculty of Public Health, Hasanuddin University, to fostering an internationally standardized campus environment.
Through WEC, students not only sharpen their English language skills but are also prepared to become confident and globally competitive public health professionals.
The inauguration series concluded with a joint prayer and a group photo session involving all management members, faculty leaders, and advisors.
Congratulations to all Winslow English Club management members for the 2025–2026 period on carrying out their mandate and responsibilities.
