From his roots in South Sulawesi to his position at the highest levels of the Indonesian National Police, Mohammad Fadil Imran’s journey embodies the values of service, discipline, and leadership.
PELAKITA.ID – Mohammad Fadil Imran, born on August 14, 1968, has built a remarkable career in the Indonesian National Police (Polri). His story is not just one of professional achievement, but also of deep cultural roots and steady dedication to public service.
On August 5, 2025, he assumed one of the most strategic positions in the police force, serving as the Chief of Police’s Principal Assistant for Operations (Asisten Utama Kapolri Bidang Operasi).
This appointment marked another milestone in a journey that has been defined by discipline, resilience, and a lifelong commitment to the rule of law.
Roots in South Sulawesi
Fadil was born in South Sulawesi, a province rich in history and tradition. His family hails from Kaluarrang, Bontonompo, an area that connects the heritage of Gowa and Takalar.
It is often mentioned that he is a descendant of Daeng Matanre Karaeng Manguntungi Tumapa’risi’ Kallonna Gallarang Loaya, the ninth King of Gowa (1510–1546), who is remembered as the founder of Makassar City with the establishment of Fort Somba Opu in 1511. This lineage has been a source of pride, giving his life journey a historical resonance that links the leadership of the past with the service of the present.
A Foundation in Education and Discipline
The seeds of his professional path were planted when Fadil entered the Indonesian Armed Forces Academy (Akabri)—today known as the Police Academy (Akpol). He graduated in 1991, in the same cohort as General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the current Chief of Police.
The rigorous training shaped his early understanding of discipline, strategy, and responsibility. Later in his career, he continued to sharpen his skills, including completing the SESPIMTI leadership program in 2015, which prepared him for higher command roles.
Steady Steps in Law Enforcement
Fadil’s career began with grassroots policing in Jakarta. He started as Deputy Chief of the Sabhara Unit at the West Jakarta Metro Police, then became Chief of the Cengkareng Precinct in 1999 and later Chief of the Tanah Abang Precinct in 2002.
These early assignments grounded him in community policing and gave him firsthand experience with Jakarta’s complex urban challenges.
As he moved up the ranks, Fadil took on progressively larger responsibilities.
By 2008, he was serving as Head of Sub-Directorate III of General Crimes at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police while also Chief of the Tanjung Priok Port Police.
In the following years, he became Deputy Director of General Crimes in Jakarta, before advancing to national-level roles in the Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim).
His portfolio included general crimes, special crimes, cybercrime, and later environmental and forestry crimes—an indication of his adaptability in addressing evolving threats to security.
Rising to Leadership
Fadil’s leadership roles expanded significantly from 2013 onward, when he was appointed Chief of the West Jakarta Metro Police. In 2016, he became Director of Special Criminal Investigation at Jakarta Metropolitan Police while simultaneously serving as Deputy Director of Economic and Special Crimes at Bareskrim.
His reputation for professionalism and integrity grew, leading to his promotion as Director of Cyber Crime (2017) and then Director of Environmental and Forestry Crimes (2018).
By 2019, he was entrusted as the Chief of Police’s Expert Staff for Social and Cultural Affairs, a position that required both administrative wisdom and cultural sensitivity.
In 2020, he reached one of the most visible regional commands: Chief of East Java Police (Kapolda Jawa Timur).
Later that year, he was entrusted with leading the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Kapolda Metro Jaya), a post considered one of the most demanding in the country due to its political, social, and security complexities.
At the Pinnacle of Service
By March 27, 2023, Fadil had risen to the rank of Commissioner General and was appointed Chief of the Security Maintenance Agency of Polri (Kabaharkam Polri), overseeing national-level security strategies.
In August 2025, his expertise and steady leadership earned him a new mandate as Principal Assistant for Operations to the Chief of Police—a role that places him at the heart of operational decision-making for the national police force.
Beyond the Uniform
Fadil’s leadership extends beyond the realm of policing. In August 2024, he was elected Chairman of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) for the 2024–2028 term during the organization’s 24th National Congress in Surabaya.
His election reflected both his personal love for sports and his capacity to guide national organizations with vision and accountability.
A Journey of Service and Legacy
From his roots in South Sulawesi to his position at the highest levels of the Indonesian National Police, Mohammad Fadil Imran’s journey embodies the values of service, discipline, and leadership.
He has not only navigated the complexities of law enforcement in Indonesia but also carried with him the legacy of his cultural heritage. As he steps into his latest role, his career reflects a balance of tradition and modernity, of heritage and duty, of personal discipline and national responsibility.
